The Kirkstyle Hotel is a family owned boutique hotel in the very heart of Biggar, each of our rooms has been individually designed and the beauty of turning an old Victorian building into a hotel means each of our rooms are unique. Each room has en-suite facilities and we have fully accessible rooms available. The hotel is also pet friendly!

Biggar is a historic thriving former market town and has been a royal burgh since 1451. It still retains its medieval layout with the high street lined by centuries-old houses. There is a variety of independent shops, pubs and restaurants. The Kirkstyle Hotel is well situated to provide accommodation for the popular local wedding venues, block booking of our rooms is available. We have links with The Elphinstone Hotel where you can enjoy an evening meal, our staff would be happy to book you a table.

Biggar has good transport links to Glasgow, Edinburgh, Peebles and Lanark. Lanark has a direct rail link to Glasgow, which is 12 miles from Biggar by bus. Carstairs train station provides a rail link to Edinburgh and is 10 miles from Biggar by taxi. Biggar is around 30 miles from Edinburgh and is accessible via the A702 . Glasgow is around an hour’s drive away via the M74 motorway.

One of the town’s main attractions is the world famous Victorian Purves Puppet Theatre. There are also some interesting museums, including the Biggar & Upper Clydesdale Museum, the Biggar Gasworks Museum (the only preserved gasworks in Scotland) and the Albion Motor Museum (commercial vehicles from Albion Motors). The New Lanark world heritage site is 13 miles away. There are a number of local walks such as Tinto hill and the Southern Upland Way. The town also hosts the annual Biggar Little Festival every October, celebrating a range of arts. Another spectacular yearly event is the Biggar Bonfire, an ancient custom that takes place on Hogmanay, hosted on the high street of Biggar. We do not have an onsite carpark, however on street free parking is available on the main road outside the hotel. The majority of parking bays are long stay but there are some short stay bays (2 hour time limit between 9 am and 6 pm) but staff can advise on arrival. We have secure storage for cyclists and off road parking for a small number of motorbikes.

Absolute gem in a lovely town. What an absolute Gem. A cross between a boutique hotel and the most welcoming of B&B's which was fabulous value and about 45 minute straight drive to Edinburgh. A lovely welcome, the room was extremely spacious, lovely comfortable bed, clean with a lovely bathroom. We were checking in and leaving for a concert so needed food and we ordered a takeaway. The lovely lady there gave us plates and cutlery to eat in the dining room. The breakfast the following morning was yummy and catered for my veggie daughter and vegan wife as well as myself. All in all a lovely stay in a gorgeous little town. We'll find an excuse to make the 3HR 40min drive and return!! Next year's fringe!!

Lovely hotel Stayed here for one night as attended a wedding reception at nearby Cornhil Castle. We were warmly welcomed and our room was very spacious with a large comfortable bed. The room was very clean and equipped with tea/coffee, TV and a fridge with a large glass bottle of water provided. We had breakfast the following morning and again staff were very pleasant and welcoming and the Scottish breakfast was cooked to perfection. Added bonus of receiving 10% discount on our food at the Crown Inn. Highly recommend.

Nice hotel in central area Like a lot of other people we stayed here to attend a wedding nearby. Luckily we had relatives staying the night before so we could get changed for the wedding in their room as check in is 1500hrs. We were in room 8 which is huge with 2 double beds and a decent en suite. There is no bar or restaurant in the hotel but plenty nearby. Breakfast was excellent and all the staff were really pleasant and very helpful. We managed to get parked on the street outside the hotel as it was a weekend and the restrictions only apply weekdays. I would stay here again.

Perfect for a couple of night’s stay. Booked three rooms for two nights as we were in Biggar for a family wedding. All three rooms were very good, particularly rooms 3 & 4. Very modern, large walk in shower. Room 9 was also very good, but as in the older part of the building, the bathroom was older in design. We were met on arrival by Kathy who was very helpful. Breakfasts were excellent and all staff we encountered were delightful. Would definitely return.

Lovely little hotel. This is the third time we have stayed at The Kirkstyle and this visit just didn’t live up to the previous times. First of all, the breakfast is faultless, everything fresh and good quality and sets you up for the day. Where our visit fell down was the room. The mattress was dreadful, with the springs very pronounced, we turned it which made it slightly better but it needs replacing. It gave me a bad back. The glass tops on the bedside tables were quite dangerous at the sharp corners. The room was ok, but there were four doors along one side which made me feel uncomfortable. The bathroom was nice with a great shower, but needed finishing touches and the skirting edges were very dusty. All in all it was a nice stay, we like Biggar and always have a great day in Edinburgh with the very handy bus stop. We would have brought the mattress issue up, but apart from the lady serving breakfast who was very busy, no one asked us if everything was ok with the room. The Kirkstyle could be a lovely hotel, but is definitely not ‘boutique’ but with a bit more attention to detail would definitely get there.

Nice hotel but soft product let's it down a little Stayed here for 2 nights with a dog for a local weeding. Hotel location is great and staff were super friendly. Slept really well and breakfast was great. There were however a few areas that let it down a little. First is that our Albion suite was quite dusty on the bed frame and cobwebs hanging down. I note this feedback in reviews earlier. Second is the lack of amenities. Our room didn't seem to have a hairdryer and the lack of shampoo and shower gel in the bathroom was a miss. Guessing these can be requested but I feel these should be in every room. We would stay again but the soft product of the stay does need some attention.

My experience in the Kirkstyle Hotel After staying at the Kirkstyle hotel,I feel repelled to let people know how lovely and characteristic the hotel is.The staff were warm and welcoming and very helpful. The food was excellent waffles were fabulous and so were the eggs Benedict. Our room was beautiful and very well decorated and spacious. The beds were very comfy and relaxing. There was loads of stuff to do. The hotel is very well situated in the centre of Biggar. If visiting this area again I will definitely stay here.

I book this hotel regularly for guests who come to Biggar for conferences and courses. It’s a great wee place which is universally enjoyed by all who come. They are very helpful and sociable an although I haven’t stayed there the breakfasts are reported as very good. Pity the cafe is now closed as it was great too.
